No mayhem in Main St

Main Street from McLiver Street to Urraween Road closed for roadworks yesterday but traffic diverted with ease.

GRIDLOCK? What gridlock?

The afternoon rush hour came and went in Hervey Bay yesterday without a hint of the Main Street mayhem that many felt was on the cards.

A section of one of the city's primary arterial routes, from Urraween Road to McLiver Street, closed until November yesterday morning.

Between 3pm and 4pm, when school traffic usually reaches its peak, there was little to suggest that the road closure was causing any headaches.

The routes to and from Fraser Coast Anglican College, St James Lutheran College, Hervey Bay Christian Academy, Wide Bay TAFE and Kawungan State School were all relatively clear.

It was business as usual at the intersection of Urraween Road and Nissen Street, while the potential alternative route through Squire and Grevillea streets at Kawungan seemed no busier than usual.

Stage two of the Main Street upgrade will see a part of the road closed for four months.

The first stage of the $7 million project to rebuild the section between Urraween and Doolong roads was started last November by VDM Bellero Construction and wound up on Monday.

The overall project includes replacing water mains and other services on the 1.3km stretch.

Well I'm not sure what research went into this story, but at 3:45pm traffic was banked up from the Boat Harbour Drive end of Nissen Street all the way back past the roundabout in front of the hospital!! It took 10 minutes to get to the lights!

Yep and it was the same all morning too... hello council you need to adjust the traffic light settings @ Nissen & Boat Harbour... no traffic on the other roads maybe because they were all backed up on Nissen!

Agree entirely as above. We now have to use Nissen St about 4/6 times a day. The lights at Nissen and Boat Harbour Drive need the right turn out of Nissen green arrow extended. At present about 4 cars can get through!!Most traffic that was using Main street is now using Nissen St so cant work out whoever wrote this story can say its 'business as usual' at that intersection!!!

Totally agree with the above comments...The council need to adjust the light to now suit the traffic. Yesterday we were on our way out of Fraser shores Shopping centre wanting to turn right onto Nissen st....UMMM but no ..we sat there for 10 minutes before some inpatient driver drove around us and turned left in front of us. We figured that this was an impossible task to get onto Nissen St ..so we went left and drove down the street so we could do a U turn to get back on the way to Boat Harbour Drive.

Whom ever wrote this story, diffidently did not do their homework!!!!

Lets home the council does and adjust the lights there accordingly !!!
