Street produced top hockey talent

FIVE of Australia's most talented hockey players grew up in the same Maryborough street.

Don McWatters, the three McBryde brothers, Ian, John and Bruce and their sister Di, developed their skills with games in their backyard throughout their childhood in Maryborough.

Don McWatters and John McBryde became dual Olympic champions and are members of the Hockey Queensland Team of the Century and the Hockey Queensland Hall of Fame.

Ian played for Australia in 1969 and Bruce McBryde played his first game for the University of Queensland Hockey Club in 1959. He celebrated 50 consecutive years of service at the club in 2008.

The talented group will be attending the University of Queensland Hockey Club's reunion dinner at the Mercure Hotel in Brisbane tomorrow night.

Di will also be attending the reunion as a former player.

At the dinner, the University of Queensland's Team of the Decade and Team of the 20th Century will be announced.
