Stephanie Cunningham and the Bromiley Court Crew held their Neighbour Day barbecue in the Cunninghams’ shed.
THE “Bromiley Court Crew” are a friendly bunch, helping each other out in times of trouble and celebrating the high points with lavish street parties.
This community spirit was rewarded yesterday when the Dundowran cul de sac won the Fraser Coast's first annual Neighbour Day prize for being “the friendliest neighbourhood in the region”.
The whole street braved the pouring rain yesterday afternoon for a barbecue where representatives from the Fraser Coast Regional Council told them of their victory and coming prize of a special street sign that will tell everyone who passes that Bromiley Court is the friendliest address in town.
A tasty cheesecake was also personally delivered by the council.
Stephanie Cunningham registered her neighbourhood for the event, saying “we're just like a big family; everyone looks after each other”.
Whether it was partying in specially set-up gazebos for Australia Day, rushing to the aid of a local car crash or being there for a neighbour who lost a son, the residents of Bromiley Court embodied the ideal behind the Neighbour Day concept, according to a council spokesperson.
“We wanted to promote the communities that were all about helping each other,” said Tracey Mason, one of the council organisers of the event.
“The idea is to create friendlier, happier and safer neighbourhoods by encouraging activities that bring people together.”
Neighbour Day is a national event that began in 2003 and Ms Mason said it would take place again on the Fraser Coast next year.
