After six hours of work Jeanette Maynes is ready for her entry in the 2011 Melbourne Body Art competition.
HERVEY BAY graphic designer Jeanette Maynes is always up for a challenge.
She has climbed Mt Everest and she even ran a marathon along the Great Wall or China.
As she is always looking for her next quest her friends know they have to be a little bit careful when they talk about interesting events happening around the place.
One of her best friend’s, Lolita Valerga, should have realised that when she started suggesting Jeanette should join her in Melbourne to watch the 2011 Body Art competition.
As usual Jeanette jumped in with the suggestion let’s not just go to it, let’s enter it.
And so began two months of preparations as Jeanette and Lolita teamed together to tackle the best body artists and models in the country.
“As usual I just jumped straight in and didn’t really think about how we were going to do it,” Jeanette said.
“I suppose that’s the fun about just having a go at things, it’s all about life.”
Jeanette scoured EBay to find a suitable headdress and then it was up to Lolita to come up with her colourful body art design.
“I think my headpiece came from the Thailand Mardi Gras,” she laughed.
Nerves did hit when she realised what she had got herself in for, but some appropriately placed adhesive stick ons and box underwear gave her the confidence to strut her stuff on the cat walk.
“We didn’t win a prize, but we’ll be back next year, maybe we should start one here in Hervey Bay and if we do I have a headdress for sale at a very good price.”
