10 ways you can build Toowoomba Second Range Crossing

MORE than 40 months of construction, 41km of roads and bridges and $1.6 billion of material and works - the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is a massive project.

It will require a workforce of more than 1800 and hundreds of companies to build it.

Nexus Infrastructure has started calling for local, national and global companies to put their hands up to build the long-awaited bypass.

Here are 10 work packages open for expressions of interest:

 

1. Hire or sell an asphalt batch plant

NEXUS Delivery is seeking EOI from suitably qualified companies for the purchase or hire of a portable asphalt batch plant capable of producing hot mix asphalt including the delivery, installation, commissioning and servicing of the plant.

It is expected that the plant will produce approximately 350,000t of hot mix asphalt over a 9 month period. This scope also includes all scheduled servicing, general maintenance and 24hr breakdown support.

 

2. Piling works

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified companies for the Installation of cast in place augured piles on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

The TSRC Project has a total of 25 structures, of which, the vast majority will require piling foundation works.

The current design for the TSRC Project shows a total number of 231 of piles ranging from 900, 1200 and 1500mm diameter.

All cast in place augured piling works are to be in line with Department of Main Roads QLD requirements and project specifications. Piling works will be staged over a 21 month period starting in July 2016.

It is Nexus intention to supply (Permanent) Pile liners, reinforcement and concrete.

 

3. Piling casings

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified companies for the Manufacture and Supply of Steel Pile Casings on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

The TSRC Project has a total of 25 structures, of which, the vast majority will require piling foundation works.
All pile casings are to have driving shoes at the base to suit the ground conditions of the pile.

The current design for the TSRC Project shows a total number of 231 of piles ranging from 900, 1200 and 1500mm diameter.
Due to ongoing geotechnical investigations, final number and widths of those piles in need of permanent steel casing will be determined at tender stage.

All pile liners are to be produced in line with Department of Main Roads QLD requirements and project specifications. Pile liner supply will be staged over a 21 month period starting in July 2016.


4. Tower cranes and vertical passenger hoists

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified providers for Supply, Installation, Operation, Maintenance and Removal of Tower Cranes and Vertical Passenger Hoists on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

Tower Cranes will be used to assist in the construction of the viaduct piers and headstocks with the vertical passenger hoists being used to gain access to the work fronts on the piers and headstock of the viaduct structure.

Tower Cranes and Vertical Passenger Hoists will be required over a period of 20 months starting in September 2016.

 

5. Steel reinforcements

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified companies for the scheduling, production, supply and delivery of reinforcing steel products on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

The TSRC project involves the production and supply of circa 15,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement over a 26 month period starting in June 2016. Reinforcement steel being supplied will be for general works, piling, bridges, drainage and barrier works.

The arrangement is to provide a flexible schedule based on locality, productivity, and quantity of works, whilst providing value for money and meeting on time supply and delivery demand for the TSRC project.

 

6. Cross drainage installation

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified companies for the installation of the cross drainage structures (reinforced concrete pipes RCP and reinforced concrete box culverts RCBC) on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

The TSRC project involves an estimate of 6,000 lineal metres of structures being those both for RCP and RCBC as preliminary quantities to be installed over a period of twelve (12) months.

Sizes of the RCP are within a range of 600mm to 2100mm diameter.
Average size for the RCBC is 3000 x 3000 mm.

Precast structures will be provided by Nexus Delivery and either stored in laydown areas within reasonable distance to the works or installed directly from delivery trucks.

Potential Subcontractors will be also required to perform the installation of wing walls, headwalls, pits, apron slabs, inlet and outlet structures those involving activities of scaffolding, form, reinforcement and pour.
Potential Subcontractors will be required to perform also minor detailed earthworks to carry out the installation of the cross drainage and the construction of the inlet and outlet drainage structures.

Potential Subcontractors responding to this EOI shall prove their capabilities for the performance of the works and the provision of all personal, plant and equipment required to undertake the works in quality, safe and time manner.

 

7. Precast arches civil works

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified companies for the construction of precast concrete arch underpass bridges on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

The TSRC project involves the installation of three arch underpass bridges located in Paynter Rd (BR-02), Morley's Rd (BR-07) and McNamara Rd (BR-08)

Dimensions of the underpasses is approximately 40 meters long, 11 meters wide and 6 meters high. The works will include detailed earthworks for the footings ground preparation, construction of the arch footings with a dimension of 1.8 m wide x 1.3 m deep and 40 m long, installation and erection of the arches, joint sealant and grouting into the footings and installation of subsoil drainage.

Installation of the RSS walls, handrails and drainage to be installed by others.

Precast arches will be provided by Nexus Delivery to be installed directly from delivery trucks.

Potential Subcontractors responding to this EOI shall prove their capabilities for the performance of the works and the provision of all personnel, plant and equipment required to undertake the works in quality, safe and time manner.

 

8. Water mains relocation

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified companies for the relocation of water mains on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

Potential Subcontractors will be required to decommission water main pipes (ductile iron pipes, polyethylene, PVC, etc.) and replace them with new pipes, in certain cases the pipes will have to be encased in concrete following the drawings and specifications.

Potential Subcontractors will have to positive allocate the adjacent and actual buried underground services to be replaced and request the relevant permits to work in the area and perform the shutdown.

Overall works will involve the provision of earthworks, supply of all materials required to carry out the work and performance of pressure testing and test certificates in accordance to Australian Standards and Project Specification.

Subcontractor to comply with the requirements, accreditations and certificates to perform the works for assessment by QUU Services, Council of Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba.

Potential Subcontractors responding to this EOI shall prove their capabilities for the performance of the works and the provision of all personnel, plant and equipment required to undertake the works in quality, safe and time manner.

 

9. Bridge construction

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified companies for the performance of the civil works (FRP, Form, Reo and Pour) of the bridges on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

The TSRC Project involves the construction of 24 structures of which three of them are precast arches underpasses. Another 10 are built with Pre-stressed Deck Units and remaining 11 with Super-T Girders.

The civil works will involve the trimming of the cast in situ piles heads, construction of the bridge columns, headstocks, abutment, pedestals, restrain blocks (where applicable), wing walls, installation of the bearing pads and levelling of the super T girders or deck units, construction of the bridge concrete in situ decks, relieving slabs, in situ concrete barriers, green cutting, construction joints and application of any concrete coating (where applicable)

The Subcontractor shall allow for all cast in items required, subsoil drainage and geotextile, and all required formwork, scaffold, handrails and walkways to perform the work described above detailed earthwork and scour protection is included in the package as well as the abutment protection and construction of maintenance platforms.

This scope of work excludes the installation and erection of the Deck Units and Super-T Girders.

10. Transport and erect precast elements

NEXUS Delivery is seeking for EOI from suitably qualified companies for the performance of the transport and erection of precast members of the bridge structures on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

The TSRC Project involves the construction of 24 structures of which three of them are precast arches underpasses. Another 10 are built with Pre-stressed Deck Units and remaining 11 with Super-T Girders.

The transport and erection services will include the pick-up of the precast elements at the manufacturers yard, the transport of the precast elements to each location and the erection of all elements into place.
Potential Subcontractor will be responsible for transport and lifting designs as well as all permits and/or certifications required.

Summary of Precast Elements:
SuperT Girders (497 girders to be installed in 20 months):
Heights are 1500mm and 1800mm.
Lengths range from 14m to 36m.
Weights range from 30ton to 85ton.
Precast Deep Deck Units (615 deck units to be installed in 16 months):
Heights are 730mm, 760mm, 800mm and 1050mm.
Lengths range from 14m to 27m.
Weights range from 13ton to 30ton.
