An estimated 10,000 limber up for M’boro Pub Fest on June 9

MOTELS are booked out and pub-crawlers are putting the final touches on their costumes ahead of next week's World's Greatest Pub Fest.

An estimated 10,000 people are expected to take over Maryborough streets next Sunday as they visit each of the 13 participating pubs.

Revellers can expect to see pirates, mermaids and sailors for the nautical-themed event, chosen in honour of charity Coast Guard Sandy Straits.

Organisers hope to raise $10,000 for the coast guard.

A dollar from the sale of each official Pub Fest card, which users can get stamped at each pub, will go to the coast guard.

Fraser Coast Councillor Darren Everard, who holds the events portfolio, said organisers would not go for the world record this year and would instead put more focus on being a charity event.

Arkana Motel owner Mark Donaldson said the event was a great boost for Maryborough businesses.

"We've been booked out since last year," he said.

Maryborough still holds the world record for most people on a pub crawl after beating New York in 2009.
