20 days, 22 boats, 1400 people

MORE than 1400 asylum seekers being carried on 22 boats have arrived in Australian waters in September.

The latest arrival - a boat carrying 67 people - was intercepted west-north-west of Cocos Islands on Thursday morning.

Last week the Federal Government began transferring some of the asylum seekers who have arrived in Australia since August 13 to the processing centre on Nauru.

The 67 people on board the boat intercepted today will be taken to Christmas Island.
