20 fire crews battling blaze on Hervey Range
ALMOST 20 fire crews are battling a blaze at Hervey Range.
The fire, which crews first responded to early Friday morning, is burning near Hervey Range Road, between the Hervey Range Lookout and the Gun Club.
"Firefighters are conducting back burning operations in the area and smoke will affect nearby residents," a Queensland Fire and Emergency Service statement said.
"Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are on scene at a vegetation fire. Hervey Range Road is closed and police are on scene to assist with traffic management."
About 19 crews are currently on scene.
Black River & Districts Rural Fire Brigade said about 46 volunteers were battling the fire which had "jumped containment lines".
A QFES spokesman said it appeared no properties were under threat.
Residents are being asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition and keep their medication close by.
Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.
Meanwhile, fire crews are also at the scene of a vegetation fire burning near Isaac and Mountview roads at Toonpan.
Firefighters are conducting backburning operations in the area and smoke will affect nearby residents.
Vegetation fires on Magnetic Island and Hervey Range are mainly responsible for increased smoke in the region, as well as dust from the devastating bushfires in the state's south moving up the east coast.
