Roadworks begin on $2.2 million Boundary Rd project
WORK has started and detours are in place for the $2.2m Boundary Rd reconstruction project.
A council spokesman said the project would include rebuilding 900m of Boundary Rd from Bideford St to Denmans Camp Rd which involved pavement rehabilitation, drainage improvements, kerb and channelling, parking bays, surfacing and associated works.
Infrastructure planning and delivery portfolio Councillor Trevor McDonald said efforts were made to minimise delays.
"Boundary Rd will remain open during the 16-week project but will be reduced to one lane with one-way traffic westbound," he said.
Traffic wanting access to Boundary Rd will be detoured via Colyton St, Tavistock St, and Bideford St.
Pedestrians and motorists are urged to allow extra travel time or take alternative routes to avoid delays during the construction period.
Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the works would improve access to the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre, which is being refurbished.
It will also vastly improve parking at the sports fields.
The work is expected to be finished in September, weather permitting.
