Driver charged: 4WD hit and run leaves boy in hospital

UPDATE: A man has been charged over a hit-and-run crash that left a Sunshine Coast boy in hospital with serious injuries.

The 16-year-old Tewantin teenager was crossing the David Low Way between Cooyar Street and Bicentennial Dr at Noosa Heads on Saturday about 2am when he was struck by the driver, who police allege failed to stop.

The impact was so severe parts flew off the front of the car.

The teenager remained in hospital yesterday in a stable condition.

The 47-year-old Peregian Springs man has been charged with one count of failure to remain at the scene of a crash and assist injured persons.

He is due to appear in the Noosa Magistrates Court on July 25.

Investigations are continuing to appeal for any witnesses that may have been in the area at the time to contact them.

Officers are hunting for the driver of the vehicle, which hit the 16-year-old as he was crossing a road in Noosa Heads about 2am today.

Police believe the Tewantin teenager was crossing the David Low Way between Cooyar Street and Bicentennial Dr when he was hit by a Toyota Prado.
