60 cannabis plants seized from property in drug raid

POLICE have seized 60 cannabis plants from a Cooloola Cove property as part of an operation involving three policing units.

Tin Can Bay officer-in-charge Sergeant Darren Grieve said the operation involved roadside drug and alcohol testing and a co-ordinated search of the address.

"The first phase was setting up a static RBT site near the army base," Sgt Grieve said.

Officers carried out drug and breath testing, with two drug-drivers busted.

No drink-drivers were detected.

Officers then executed a search warrant at a Cooloola Cove property, with officers discovering a collection of plants in the property's yard.

Sgt Grieve said a tip-off led to the drug bust.

"It was information we received through Crime Stoppers," he said.

He said there was plenty more work to be done before police could quash the local cannabis supply.

"We'll keep doing warrants and doing what we have to do and act on information that we've received."

Three officers from the Gympie roadside policing unit and four officers from the Wide Bay tactical crime squad joined another four officers from Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach stations to carry out the operation.

The roadside tests also picked up one unlicenced driver and one person driving an unregistered vehicle.
