$7500 worth of car keys stolen from Urangan wrecking yard

THIEVES made off with 15 sets of computerised car keys worth $7500 when they broke into a Hervey Bay wrecking yard on the weekend.

The Jeeepart Recyclers on Beck Rd was raided sometime between Saturday and Monday.

Police said the offenders rummaged through shipping containers as well as thieving the valuable car keys from the Urangan property.

The keys are described as remote keyless entry ignition type keys, each worth about $500.

By removing the keys, the computers in the vehicles have been rendered inactive, a Hervey Bay police spokesman said.

Anyone with information, or who finds the keys, is asked to contact police on 4123 8111 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
