Major hazard shuts down Bruce Hwy, Sunshine Mwy

BREAKING: The Bruce Hwy and Sunshine Motorway are at a standstill on the Sunshine Coast due to a major hazard.

A B-double is blocking the left hand lane for southbound drivers at Palmview, just before the off ramp to Caloundra Rd. 

Southbound traffic is at a crawl up to 7km from the scene. 

The Sunshine Mwy's westbound lanes are backed up all the way to the Stringybark Rd overpass.

Authorities have urged drivers to avoid the highway.  

The Department of Transport has issued a hazard warning and are urging motorists to use alternative routes
