Aussies Barty and Dellacqua lose third grand slam final

AUSSIES Ash Barty and Casey Dellacqua have lost their third grand slam final of the year, beaten 6-7 6-1 6-4 in yesterday's final of the women's doubles at the US Open by Czech pair Lucie Hradrecka and Andrea Hlavackova.

Barty and Dellacqua also made the final at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

They had a great chance to record their first grand slam victory, but were unable to hold serve at 4-4 in the third set.

Unforced errors proved costly, the Aussies making 26 compared to 14 by their opponents.

Barty and Dellacqua also won just 53% of their first serve, against 75% by the Czechs.

Meanwhile top seeds Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal won through to tomorrow's men's singles final in contrasting fashion.

While Nadal beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-4 7-6 6-2, Djokovic took more than four hours to get past SWiss improver Stanislas Wawrinka 2-6 7-6 3-6 6-3 6-4.

The women's singles final was due to be played overnight between the two best players in the world, Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka.
