Brisbane woman's murder still has police perplexed

THE murder of a female in Brisbane is continuing to perplex Queensland Police, with authorities still unable to determine her age.

Police have released images of gold and silver jewellery being worn by the victim, including three quite distinctive rings - one of which is encrusted with diamonds, another which features a scuffed skull.

Her badly-beaten remains were found at Kurilpa Park on the Brisbane River at 6am on Friday and could be in her teens or early 20s.

Acting Inspector Tod Reid told reporters it was now "less likely" the victim was a backpacker.

Over the weekend, police examined CCTV footage from the area that might deliver some hint of what happened to the female with olive skin, slim build, and about 165cm tall.

Police asked anyone who might have used bikeways or paths near the area on Thursday night or Friday morning to come forward with information by contacting Dutton Park Police in Brisbane or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
