Bryants celebrate over 120 years of marriage

PLANNING is under way for a family reunion for the descendants of Alfred and Kate Bryant, who married in Maryborough in the late 1880s.

Records from the Maryborough District Family Heritage Society show Alfred Mark Bryant and Kate Bolwell were both born in Wiltshire, England and travelled by ship to Australia in 1882.

Alfred's boat, the Scottish Wizard, arrived at the Port of Maryborough, while Kate's, the Compla, arrived at Cooktown.

In the following year they met again in Maryborough and were soon married at St Paul's Church of England.

They had eight children - Alice, Alfred Jnr, Herbert, William, Eva, Arthur, Edward and Dorothy.

Descendent Karen Bryant said all members of the family were invited to celebrate 130 years of Alfred and Kate's marriage at the Maryborough Cricket Club on November 16.

She said the family of Meena Nicholls Brischke (nee Bryant), Alfred's sister, were also invited. Meena immigrate to Australia in 1887 aboard Bulimba.
