Father remembers his two girls taken far too soon

IT wasn't reckless driving that killed the Schobbe sisters.

Grieving dad Chris Schobbe told The Morning Bulletin he believed the road surface was to blame for the deaths of Jessica, 15, and Rheanna, 12, near Yeppoon on Thursday afternoon.

The heartbroken Yeppoon man absolutely rejected social media claims that his daughter Jess had been joy riding when the car rolled several times on Norpine Road.

He said he was disgusted with the unsubstantiated rumours on Facebook.

"The major issue I have is the claims they were out joy riding and that is an absolute no," he said.

"Jess had been home sick for the day, the girls (Rheanna and Mercedes McLean, 13,) were walking (home after school) and she thought she would do the right thing and go and get her at the end of the dirt road.

"Another 100 metres and she would have been in the driveway.

"Jess did nothing wrong, it's loose surface (where the accident happened). I have lost it on the same road. That road is s...t.

"They are just lovely girls. Rheanna has done that much for the community (shave for a cure), Jess is the same. She would give you the shirt off her back."

He said Jess and Rheanna were typical country kids when it came to learning to drive from an early age.

"They they been driving since they were nine," he said.

"Rheanna has been driving bob cats since she was six."

Chris also rejected claims in the Courier Mail about details of the accident and what Rheanna had allegedly said after the crash.

"We were there when they let Rheanna go (in Rockhampton Hospital)," he said.

"She was not talking. She was thrown out and knocked out, never regained consciousness.

"Both of them never felt anything."

Mercedes is in a stable condition at Rockhampton Hospital.
