Speedsters caught around Gympie
THE two highest speeding drivers clocked in a zone stretching from Mackay to Sunshine Coast on Tuesday were both just outside Gympie.
On day seven of Queensland Police's Christmas road safety campaign, a speed camera caught a driver going 145kmh in a 100khm zone on Mary Valley Rd at Long Flat, south of Gympie.
A station wagon was also clocked 45kmh over the limit, but on the 80kmh-zoned Glastonbury Rd at Widgee Crossing, west of Gympie.
At Carmila, west of Mackay, a sedan was caught travelling at 143kmh in a 100kmh zone.
There were 26 drink drivers caught statewide, including a motorist found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.231% at Torquay in Hervey Bay.
Five vehicles were impounded because of traffic offences in the central region that includes Bundaberg, Gladstone, Gympie, Mackay, Maryborough, Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast. - APN NEWSDESK
