Supermarket promises Wide Bay jobs
CENTRELINK’S turbo-charged jobs supermarket promises hundreds of real job opportunities and is coming to Wide Bay TAFE on November 19.
Hervey Bay Centrelink manager Jayne Ross said special celebrity guests TV fisherman Scott Hillier and rugby league legend Artie Beetson would appear and there would also be a free sausage sizzle.
She said the Job and Skills Expo brought employers and recruitment agencies together with jobseekers in a one-stop jobs supermarket under one roof on one day.
Ms Ross said the expo was a practical way of addressing unemployment and skills shortages on the Fraser Coast.
“Job seekers and employers can engage in person and build relationships which lead to real jobs,” she said.
“These expos are not careers expos but jobs expos – they’re about real job opportunities right now on the day.
“They are a unique way of assisting people who are genuinely looking for work and businesses looking for staff.
“What Centrelink creates with the Jobs and Skills Expos is a community-based event for people of all ages looking for a job or a pathway to a job.
“We’re expecting big crowds and there’ll be hundreds of real jobs in various fields on offer on the day.”
Ms Ross said there would be job boards full of information about current job vacancies and training opportunities.
She added that MCs would be walking the floor touting job and exhibitor information all day.
“It’s actually an enjoyable and motivational way to do serious business – whether you’re a job seeker or an employer looking for staff,” Ms Ross said.
Entry for both exhibitors and job seekers is free.
