Wait to see AFL premiership winner

HERVEY Bay’s Paul Brearley will have to wait another week to see if his beloved Magpies can win the AFL premiership after the grand final showdown with St Kilda ended in a draw.

At least it will give him time to wash his replica Collingwood jersey.

Well, he only has himself to blame for it being dirty – he was the one who dressed his pet dog Jasper up in it.

He forgot Jasper may get the call of nature and he did.

“That will teach me,” Brearley laughed.

“Maybe that was his way of telling me just how he was feeling at full-time – a wee bit disappointed.”

As for the winning the premiership, Brearley said he was still confident the Magpies had what it took to win the replay next Saturday.

So was his work colleague and fellow die-hard Collingwood fan, Karen White.

However White, who watched all the grand final drama unfold at what Brearley hoped would be a celebration premiership-winning party, said she wished it was all over now.

“I wore black and white all last week – now I’ve got to wash it all again and repeat the process,” she laughed.

“I really still cannot believe the game ended in a draw.

“I think it should have been decided with extra time or golden point like they do in other codes.

“Now I’ve got to go through all the emotions again – it’s going to be tough, but we’re not going to lose.

“I can only see black and white in my eyes.”
