Man faces rape, assault offences

A 24-YEAR-OLD Maryborough man facing 12 sex offences against two alleged victims will remain in custody until his trials.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will stand trial in the Maryborough District Court on two different sets of offences.

Police allege the offences against the first victim happened at Margate and Maryborough between December 2003 and August 2009.

The man was alleged to have committed two acts of rape, one attempted rape and two acts of sexual assault against the woman.

He will also face a separate trial for alleged offences against a child under the age of 12.

Police allege he raped the girl twice, indecently dealt with her twice, procured the child to commit an indecent act, permitted himself to be dealt with indecently by the girl and exposed the child to an indecent act.

The seven offences against the child were alleged to have been committed at Maryborough between August 6 and August 17 last year.

The man was represented in court by solicitor Jim Fairlie.

No pleas were entered to any of the charges.

The man was remanded in custody until his District Court appearances.
