A dam good reason to party

WHETHER they want to or not, the residents of Maryborough will know about it.

That’s the word from Tanzi Smith, one of the many organisers of this afternoon’s party at Queens Park celebrating Peter Garrett’s decision to scupper Anna Bligh’s Traveston dam plan.

“There will be a special surprise about ten to two,” Ms Smith said yesterday.

“All of Maryborough should know about it when it happens and they will know about it whether they are at the party or not.”

The party near the rotunda will run from 2pm to 6pm with various anti-dam performers already lined up to take the stage.

Impromptu additions to the line-up are invited and encouraged with songs and poems and prose and speeches all welcome.

“We have invited the GMA members and supporters and people and businesses who have helped the fight against the dam to come along.

“Anyone who did anything, absolutely anything, for the campaign is invited.”

Ms Smith said she had already attended four or five meetings this week about “what happens from now on”.

“We have to make sure that what we fought to save isn’t destroyed by over-allocation.”
