Road death leaves Bay in shock

SHE HAD the world at her feet but this week the life of popular Hervey Bay girl Emma Butters was cut short.

The 20-year-old Urangan High School graduate was travelling back to her Brisbane university on Tuesday when her car was hit on the Bruce Highway, south of Maryborough.

During her teenage years Emma, a triplet, made a name for herself through community involvement and academic achievements.

In 2006 she was Hervey Bay’s junior mayor.

Yesterday tributes flooded the internet but perhaps the most heartbreaking words left on Emma’s Facebook Page were the ones she had written herself.

In the biography section of her profile Emma talks of her dreams to one day live in Dublin and her belief that everything happens for a reason.

“The only person I can believe in is myself,” she wrote

“So I’m gunna be chilled and work my own life out.”

I’m going to make something of myself and be just me while I’m at it. Love it, hate it, time will tell.
