A fun night out with the Fat Yak

“PASS me the Big Helga – no, make that the Fat Yak”.

Those walking past the function room at the Bayswater Hotel on Monday night may have been a little perplexed if they overheard conversations such as that.

If you were in the room, however, it was perfectly understandable as you sampled six hand-crafted beers from the Matilda Bay Brewing Company.

It was part of a unique beer and food journey that saw more than 100 come along to taste the Matilda beers matched with six different dishes.

It was Redback with reef fish kokoda, followed by Bohemian Pilsner with Atlantic salmon, then Big Helga with duck breast, Fat Yak complemented by pork belly and scallops, Alpha Pale Ale with chargrilled beef tenderloin and all washed down with a Dogbolter Dark Lager and dark chocolate brulee.

Matilda's head brewer Scott Vincent came up from Melbourne to talk about his beers and explained just how they had managed to give them the unusual names.

“Our beers are meant to be fun to drink so we thought they needed to have fun names,” was his simple explanation.

The night was once again a case of the Bayswater revealing that they can put on a first-class event.

They continue to set a new high standard for special functions.
