OPINION: Coast to cash in on P&O; cruise liners

BY 2017 thousands of people from across Australia will have seen what the Fraser Coast has to offer thanks to today's announcement that P&O cruises will visit our region.

And that's just the beginning.

If massive cruise liner visits become a regular event for the Fraser Coast, it has the potential to inject huge amounts of money into the community.

Hopefully the visits won't be limited to just Fraser Island in the future either.

Hervey Bay and Maryborough each have so much to offer visitors, in their own, unique way.

I'm not just talking about whales and Mary Poppins either.

It is exciting to see how P&O cruises will go with their stops in Fraser Coast waters and whether these two initial visits will be the foundation for a long-term tourism opportunity.

I have lived in many different regions but I have never lived somewhere as beautiful as Hervey Bay.

And I'm sure when thousands of tourists see Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Fraser Island during their P&O visits they will be left wondering why they haven't moved here yet like the rest of us.
