A MT Lofty father of three was killed on his way to work yesterday morning in what investigators have called a "tragic set of circumstances".

A number of witnesses called emergency services about 7.20am with reports a prime-mover and motorcyle had collided at the intersection of Bridge and Mary Sts.

The male motorcyclist, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toowoomba City Patrol Group Inspector Mark Wheeler said the family of the man had been notified by late afternoon and were struggling to come to terms with the tragic news.

He said witness information indicated the motorcycle and prime-mover were both turning left from Mary St into Bridge St when the two vehicles collided.

"The man was on his way to work and in a split second his life has ended," Insp Wheeler said.

"There were a lot of witnesses who actually saw the incident and have assisted police with the version of events."

He said investigations would focus on a number of factors including the circumstances of the truck being in a surburban street as well as driver error on both the truck driver and deceased man's part.

Witnesses from the Bridge St Big Dad's Pie shop have been offered counselling and emotional support.

Insp. Wheeler said responding paramedics had also offered basic trauma counselling.

The company that owns the truck involved has offered its condolences to the family of the 37-year-old man.

CJ's Bulk Handling owner John Abbott described the incident as "gut-wrenching" and offered sincere thoughts to the family.

"This is a gut-wrenching thing to have happened," Mr Abbott said.

"This is a very, very tragic thing that has happened.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the man."

He said counselling had been offered to the truck driver, 35, who had taken leave from the company in the short term.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
