Linked Landscapes tour at gallery

A SERIES of artworks celebrating nature is currently drawing visitors to the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery.

Linked Landscapes, a touring exhibition from Cairns Regional Gallery, features the large-format works of North Queensland artist Anneke Silver.

Central to Ms Silver’s landscapes is the awe and respect she feels for nature; the large canvas encourages the viewer to look closer than the customary one-off glance.

“The landscape vision of our culture is conditioned by the photo frame, the TV, views through windows – everything is apportioned in single rectangles but I want to take that further.”

For that reason, each of her landscapes is composed of multiple paintings arranged in a grid, all linking up to reveal the whole.

“I want the viewer to see how one form influences another and to highlight how even seemingly unimportant bits add up to a totality in which everything plays a vital role,” she said.

“Ultimately it is to celebrate that great mystical continuum that we call nature.”
