Woman lost handbag while sailing, returned after 22 years

A WOMAN should never be separated from her handbag - and in the case of one happy Queenslander it was for 22 years.

Now she gets to spend the cash held in it.

Richard Vanhoff sold Long Island for $2million but his teenage daughter Alexia made one incredulous Hervey Bay woman even happier.

According to Richard, as he chatted to a potential buyer Alexia was exploring the sandy beach hunting down bits and pieces that had washed ashore.

Wedged in the sand she found a blue handbag.

Inside was $97 in undamaged Aussie banknotes and an expired credit card.

Using Facebook Alexia traced the owner to Hervey Bay. She lost the bag overboard while sailing past the island in 1992.
