CABERRA'S political class has shown rare unity at the peak of an election campaign for a most unexpected purpose: to star in an indie-punk music video.

Canberra band Super Best Friends have assembled the biggest names from the world of Australian politics and journalism to star in the video for their new single, "Round and Round".

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has a cameo, so too do Tony Abbott, Bob Katter, Christine Milne and Clive Palmer.

Journalists appearing in the video include 7.30's Chris Uhlmann and Channel 10's Hugh Rimington.
