Man accused of abducting Childers girl faces new charges

NEW charges have been laid against the man accused of abducting a three-year-old girl from Childers after he allegedly smashed a window on a police car and defecated in a watchhouse cell.

Eden James Kane, 45, is charged with two counts of wilful damage of police property.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Elder said the man allegedly kicked the glass of a rear passenger window on a police car on April 15.

Sgt Elder said he was then taken back to a police watchhouse and placed in a cell, where he allegedly defecated and used his faeces to write on the cell walls.

The incidents are alleged to have happened on the same day he faced a Bundaberg court charged with abducting a toddler from her home.

He faces charges in Bundaberg of deprivation of liberty, child abduction and burglary.

Kane also stands accused of breaking into a Maryborough tennis club.

The wilful damage charges and break and enter charge were briefly mentioned in Maryborough Magistrates Court this week.

Kane will next face a Maryborough court for those charges in late July.

He is due to face Bundaberg court for the other matters in early June.

The two vehicles involved, including a small white care, appear to have sustained major damage, and it was earlier reported two people had to be freed from the wreckage of one vehicle. Three people are being assessed by ambulance officers.
