Accused killer facing serious assault charge

A TOOWOOMBA man in custody awaiting trial for murder has had an assault charge adjourned.

John Henry Brown, 33, was not required to appear in the city's Magistrates Court this morning when his solicitor asked for his client's assault charge be adjourned.

Brown is due to stand trial in the Supreme Court in October this year on a murder charge relating to the death of his cousin Caroline Widgell in July, 2013.

He has never been required to enter any plea to the murder charge and has remained in custody since he was arrested.

Brown has since been charged with serious assault corrective services officer while in custody.

Solicitor Brad Skuse asked Magistrate Graham Lee for the assault matter to be adjourned until after the Supreme Court hearing.

Mr Lee therefore remanded Brown in custody with the assault charge listed for mention on October 25.
