McDonald sets the pace

DAVE McDonald was a man in a hurry at Maryborough's Action Park.

Just ask those riders who tried to catch him during round one of the Maryborough Motorcyclists Club Dirt Track Series.

McDonald, a member of the host club, won three titles in three different classes.

He received the chequered flag in the 125cc, up to 250cc and two-stroke only finals.

Maryborough Motorcyclists Club secretary and race steward, Tony Cougle, said McDonald didn't hold back in what was the first meeting at the club in almost a year.

“Dave is probably the fastest rider in our club and he lived up to that reputation for sure during this meeting,” Cougle said.

“He's also our most enthusiastic – he would enter every race if he could.”

But McDonald wasn't the only member of the Maryborough club to power across the finish line first on the day.

Other senior riders to win included Shaun Looby (he won twice) and Larry Clayton.

In the junior ranks, Beau Pearson gave the home fans something to cheer as well after he raced to victory in the 200-250cc four-stroke final.

More than 60 junior and senior riders from throughout south-east Queensland hit the track to contest more than 60 events in various classes on the day.

Round two of the series is on September 26.
