Adam Scott ready to have good go at US Open

ADAM Scott says he is in the right frame of mind to add the US Open to the Masters title he won four years ago.

The 36-year-old world No.12 four top-five finishes among seven top-10s at the majors since his sudden-death playoff victory at Augusta four years ago and reckons he could win another at Erin Hills, Wisconsin starting tomorrow.

"My game is right there and I'm getting those feelings like I had leading into the Masters in 2013,” Scott said.

"I'm on a mission to win a second (major); I still have that high motivation.

After a miserable time at the US Open, Scott has managed to turn things around in the past few years.

Before 2012, he missed the cut six times but has since gathered three top-15 finishes, including a best result of tied fourth in 2015.

"Everyone who has won a US Open has faced a battle against the best players in the world and some of the most incredibly difficult course set-ups you'll ever see,” Scott said.

"I'd really love to put my name on that list, and the fact my results here have been better in the past few years gives me added confidence.”

World number one Dustin Johnson will defend title after partner Paulina Gretzky gave birth to their second child, a boy.

Johnson had said he would not travel until the baby had arrived.

Meanwhile, world No.2 Rory McIlroy blasted organisers after they reacted to a players' mutiny by chopping back the knee-deep rough at Erin Hills.

The world No. 2 was furious, as he felt the decision reduced his chances of claiming a fifth Major title.

"Really? They're cutting it back? We have 60 yards (of fairway) from left line to right line,” McIlroy seethed.
