Aldridge aims for state volleyball success

ALDRIDGE State High School students will travel to Brisbane today set on defending their title as one of Queensland's premier volleyball schools.

Four teams will represent the Maryborough School at the Volleyball Queensland Schools Cup from tomorrow.

The growing competition will be played at various locations across Brisbane, and based on their form on the training court they could all feature prominently at the pointy end of the season.

David Othell is one of the school's coaches under co-ordinator Rob Theile.

Othell said the players spent hours on the court to prepare for competition.

"They play volleyball for PE three times a week, they train after school on Monday and before school on Wednesday, and they play in a competition on Thursday night," Othell said.

"They spend plenty of time out there." It shows during competitions, and when Aldridge claimed two national titles last year it proved they are one of the best.

Aldridge will field teams in the Year 8 Boys and Girls, Year 9 Girls, and Year 10 Boys competitions.

The Junior Schools Cup will run from October 16-18.
