New CO for 216 Squadron
AIR Force Cadets from 216 Squadron have a new commanding officer this year.
For Pilot Officer Chris Bensein being in an Air Force cadet squadron in Maryborough is not new.
Plt Off. Bensein was a cadet in the 1970s in Maryborough when the late Flt Lt Tweedie Svensen was in charge. He had a career in the Army before returning to Maryborough.
He says he has already noticed the differences between the cadet system of the 1970s and the system today.
Plt Off. Bensein met two of the corporal candidates who had recently successfully attended the 10-day promotion camp held at Cabarlah Army base near Toowoomba.
Promotion courses are one of the activities that cadets can undertake.
Others include learning about the Air Force, navigation, survival, aviation and firearms safety.
Cadets can usually experience a flight in a glider and a powered aircraft during the year. 216 Squadron has its first parade at the Army Drill Hall, Sussex Street, Maryborough at 6.45pm (new cadets and their parents) and 6.30pm (present cadets) on Thursday, January 28.
