THEY may have only known each other for 10 days before getting married, but yesterday Alf and Mary Dennis celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
To mark the occasion the couple renewed their vows at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Hervey Bay.
Holding a photo of the couple on their wedding day, Alf said the key to a long marriage was for each to be their own person.
"We'd known one another 10 days and we were sitting in a park. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself after I had just come back from New Guinea after two years," he said.
"I said, 'Let's go and get married'. So we grab the first bus that came along and we each looked out the window for a church. We stopped at the first church we saw ..."
