Teen in court after allegedly setting fire to drug lab car

A 19-YEAR-old man who allegedly helped his brother set fire to their car at Howard on July 27 in an attempt to destroy evidence of a clandestine drug laboratory has reappeared in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court.

Asher Alfred Baxter-Sayers and his 24-year-old brother Kym David Baxter-Sayers allegedly led police on a pursuit out of town until the car smoked and broke down on Government Rd.

When the men got out of the car, Snr Const Weber said, one of the brothers allegedly "started pouring petrol on himself and on the car".

"They set fire to the car and ran off into the bush," he alleged.

Police followed and caught them a short time later.

During the brief stand-off in the bush, police allege, the 24-year-old claimed to be armed and held his brother hostage.

Asher Alfred Baxter-Sayers was charged with possession of drug utensils, possession of a knife and assault and obstructing police.

He was bailed to reappear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on October 21.

After appearing in court on July 29, Kym David Baxter-Sayers was told he was "too desperate" to be released on bail.

His case was adjourned until September 12.
