Alleged cow killer to face court

POLICE have confirmed rumours that a man has been charged in relation to cattle-duffing, or cattle theft, in the Bauple Forest.

A 27-year-old Tiaro man will appear in the Maryborough Magistrates Court later this month after being charged on January 19 with killing an animal with intent to steal.

Police will allege that he killed three cows with intent to steal the carcasses and that it happened in the Bauple Forest on an ungazetted road.

The charges were laid following an investigation by the Queensland Police Service’s Kingaroy-based Stock and Rural Crimes Squad.

Considered one of the most serious crimes within the cattle industry, stock theft is believed to be costing the Qld beef industry more than $2 million a year.
