Ambitious renovation challenge
"TIME'S up - tools down" those would have been the words "The Block" presenter Scott Camm used last week to signify the end of the six-week renovation challenge that Maryborough "blockheads" Dave and Emily Bundellu (who is expecting the couple's second child) had set themselves.
After buying their first investment home, Dave and Emily set out on the ambitious project to renovate the 1930s house - in just six weeks.
"When Matt Mercer from LJ Hooker in Maryborough first showed us through this home I knew it was the one for us," Emily said.
"Matt knew exactly what we wanted and he found it for us."
But did the couple complete the task on time and importantly, on budget?
"We came pretty close, but no - it has taken us just over seven weeks to complete, but we were on budget," Dave said. "Our biggest hold-up was having the roof replaced; it took a lot longer than we had anticipated."
When the old roof was removed Dave found that a number of timber joists needed to be replaced to bring the roof up to required standards.
"It wasn't quite right according to the standards of today but I think the roof had never been replaced since being built in the 30s and the construction was probably standard practice in that era," Dave said.
"And they certainly would not have had the products that are available today.
"All we have remaining to do is the site clean-up and just tidy a few things up and the project will be complete. What I would like to say is thank you to all those tradespeople and workers who made this renovation possible."
Dave and Emily's new tenant, Donna Kennewell, was so keen to move in she did so even before the roof had been completed.
"I just couldn't wait and the slight inconvenience of having workmen around wasn't really a problem," Donna said.
"I think Dave and Emily have done an incredible job with the restoration and I will be very happy to stay here for many years to come."
