Amendments to Fair Work Act fail to gather support

CHANGES to the Fair Work Act that the Gillard Government and Coalition have been arguing over are unlikely to pass, with crossbenchers pulling their support for the bills.

The amendments include changes to the right of entry into the workplace for union officials, bullying and 'family friendly' policies.

However neither of the independents Rob Oakeshott, Tony Windsor or The Greens MP Adam Bandt said they could support the current bill.

Both Mr Oakeshott and Mr Windsor said they could not support it without full bipartisan support for all amendments to the Act.

The changes seemed destined to fail without the support of the crossbenchers, due in part to ideological differences on either side of politics.
