Angry drunk’s rubbish tirade earns him a $600 fine

POLICE were left to clean up piles of rubbish after an angry drunk vandalised a street by knocking over bins filled with garbage.

The vandal, Adam Kenneth Stephen had been kicked out of a bar in Ipswich and was overturning wheelie bins as he walked down Brisbane St.

Police, who were patrolling the area, caught the 33-year-old in the act, after they noticed several bins had been tipped over.

Officers saw Stephen as he grabbed another bin by the handle and threw it, which caused more rubbish to be spilled onto the footpath.

When police approached Stephen about the bins he told them he could do what he wanted.

Stephen was arrested and taken to the watchhouse.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court this week, he pleaded guilty to committing a public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Brad Dick said the offence took place at 2.10am on September 27. He said police cleaned up the mess.

Defence lawyer Cameron Hodges said his client was intoxicated when he committed the offence and was remorseful for this behaviour.

Mr Hodges said his client had been upset and angry about being kicked out of the bar and then knocked over the bins.

He said Stephen, from Booval, was employed and had no prior convictions for similar offences.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess told Stephen he'd acted childishly.

"It would have been upsetting for residents in the street to have rubbish spread everywhere," she told Stephen.

"It was good of police to clean it up, I'm sure that's not a job they would have been wanting to do. Just because you were angry at bouncers at a bar, it's no excuse to go and make other people's life miserable."

Stephen was fined $600.
