Annual festival offers all the write stuff

LOCAL wordsmiths and lovers of the written word are invited to Sandcliffe Writers Festival which begins in Sandgate this Thursday (April 27).

Festival convenor Adele Moy said the event was unique.

"It's a local festival. There is no other festival of this sort in the area for writers,” Ms Moy said.

"We have an interesting line-up of wordsmiths from different genres so there is something for everyone.

"We have international best-selling author Leisa Rayven this Thursday (April 27) at 6.30pm at Sandgate Library. The latest novel in Leisa's Starcrossed series is Wicked Heart.

"On Friday (April 28) at 7pm, award winning author and journalist Matt Condon will speak at a literary dinner at Sandgate's Chandelier Bar and Grill.

"Matt's true crime trilogy Three Crooked Kings, Jacks and Jokers and All Fall Down recalls the turbulent era of crime and corruption in Queensland brought to light by The Fitzgerald Inquiry.

"Bracken Ridge Library is the venue on Saturday, April 29. At 9am join authors June Perkins, Duncan Richardson and Michael Aird for Unique Journeys. The writers will talk about their inspiration and ideas, what compels them on their creative journey, where they are today and where they hope their stories will take them in the future.

"At 11am author and journalist Susan Johnson, editor and writer Lauren Daniels and Bayside Star journalist Jacqueline Henry will discuss the ways they've honoured the power of words at various stages during their writing careers. Both sessions will be chaired by author Sheryl Gwyther.

"At 1.30pm Angela Peita will present a poetry writing workshop. Angela is an award-winning poet, spoken word artist, youth worker, workshop facilitator and live art producer.”
