Applications open for mental health funding

APPLICATIONS from local mental health organisations to access more than $500 million in government funding were now being sought, Mental Health Minister Mark Butler said on Tuesday.

The "partners in recovery" program would help people with mental health problems better access co-ordinated health services through a grants program to small non-government organisations.

Mr Butler encouraged local service providers to apply for the grants to co-ordinate service delivery for mental health patients around the country.

"Having a broad range of delivery partners involved will show the commitment and capacity of the local community, which in turn will be critical to the successful implementation of partners in recovery in their region," he said.

Applications need to include an implementation plan, project partners (including letters of support) and evidence of regional planning and consultation and a detailed budget, and must be handed in by 2pm, Tuesday December 18.
