Arrow S4E04: Beyond Redemption review
*potential spoilers lie ahead if you haven't seen up to season four episode four*
REVIEW: Never let it be said that comic book shows are not a place to find brilliant acting.
Stephen Amell and Paul Blackthorne shared one of the best, most intense, scenes in television when their Oliver Queen/Arrow and Captain Quentin Lance faced off.
Everything, from their acting to the way the scene was shot, crafted and pieced together, was perfect.
It was the moment the shoe was finally on the other foot, as Queen laid the boot into Captain Lance's decision to work with Damiean Darhk, the remarkable Neal McDonough.
McDonough is the perfect bad guy, and as Darhk creates arguably the series' best villain.
Beyond Redemption centred on the decisions made by our main characters, most of which revolve around the use of the Lazarus Pit to revive Sara Lance (Caity Lotz).
The original Black Canary was killed last season, but Sara - at least a shell of her former self - has been revived (more on this next week).
A few more things:
- Oliver Queen runs for mayor! How will he juggle the campaign with his "other" duties?
- I'm not satisfied Lance is in Team Arrow's corner. He was asked to continue working with Darhk for intel but how do they know he's on the right side?
- What will Darhk do next? He proved his ruthlessness last week and showed he has no boundaries.
- Arguably the most anticipated appearance all season, Matt Ryan will guest star as Constantine. Constantine had a 13-episode, single season run before its cancellation earlier this year. Based on his character, Constantine will play a major role in the restoration of Sara's soul to her body.
