Artist Chris Postle to talk at Hervey Bay gallery exhibition

ARTIST Chris Postle will give a free talk about how he selects the winners of the Hervey Bay Art Society's 30th annual Competitive Art Exhibition on Saturday, August 24.

The professional artist and competition judge will speak at the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery exhibition at 10am.

More than 180 paintings by 65 local artists from the Fraser Coast and beyond will be on display after the official opening on Friday, August 23, at 6pm.

Entry is free and all works are for sale.

The exhibition is the major event on the Art Society's calendar and attracts up to 2000 visitors to the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery each year.

The highlight of the opening night is the announcement of the winning entries, with more the $8500 in cash and prizes on offer.

The biggest purse is in section one, with the winning artist collecting a $2000 cheque courtesy of Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Other sections attracting plenty of entries include landscape, seascape, figurative and portraiture, and the perennial favourite, the miniatures.

The exhibition will be on show until September 15.

Visitors can purchase an exhibition catalogue for $2.

Raffle tickets will also be on sale for $1 with the first prize an original painting generously donated by Fraser Coast artist Rolf Sieber.

The Hervey Bay Regional Gallery is located at the Fraser Coast Cultural Centre at 166 Old Maryborough Rd, Pialba, and is open from 10am to 4pm each day.
