Attempted armed robbery suspect arrested in Hervey Bay

HERVEY Bay police are questioning a man in relation to Saturday night's attempted armed robbery at the Night Owl convenience store at Torquay.

Sergeant Paul Byrne said the suspect was arrested at the Hervey Bay Transit Centre at 4am on Tuesday.

"He matched the description of the man wanted for the armed robbery," he said.

"And he was wanted on other matters."

Detective Sergeant Dave Guild said on Saturday a man had entered through the rear entrance of the Bideford St building and into the storeroom at 7.10pm.

"The staff member discovered him," he said.

"(The offender) asked for money. He had a knife but he didn't threaten the staff member with it."

Detective Sgt Guild said the male employee retreated back into the shopfront, closing and locking the storeroom door behind him.

"(The offender) decamped the scene.

"He didn't get away with anything."
