Aussie film on show in Bay
MOVIE writer, director and producer Richard Gray is in Hervey Bay for the release of his film Summer Coda at BigScreen cinemas in Pialba today.
The romantic drama adventure is set in the orange orchards of Mildura in Victoria, and citrus producers attending Citrus Australia's national conference in Urangan this week were the first people on the Fraser Coast to see the movie at a sneak preview on Monday.
Mr Gray said the response was fantastic and he would “love people to go along and see Summer Coda at the cinemas”.
“It's very hard getting people to see Aussie films,” Mr Gray said.
The film's stars include Alex Dimitriades, Rachael Taylor, Jacki Weaver, Susie Porter and Angus Sampson.
Mr Gray said he was in the early stages of working on his next project which was set around cane fields, and he was considering the Fraser Coast as a possible location.
The Melbourne man has just returned from filming a documentary about yak cheese in the Himalayas for ABC TV's Cheese Slices, which will screen early next year.
He said Hervey Bay's warm temperatures were a welcome change from the freezing nights in the mountains where he suffered “pretty extreme altitude sickness”.
