Aydin arrives to see in new year

AS MANY Fraser Coast residents counted down the clock at a party or following a family dinner, Sonja and Daniel North were ringing in 2010 a little differently.

Although the Maryborough two were among those who hardly slept a wink, it was not because of their silly season antics.

They were spending their first night with their newborn son, Aydin Perry Mitchell Joe North. Aydin was born at 9.25am on New Year’s Eve at Hervey Bay Hospital.

He is Sonja and Daniel’s second son, brother to Lochlan, who was also born on a special date, Australia Day.

Aydin weighed in at 4500g (10lb) and a relieved Sonja said she was glad she opted to have a caesarean.

Despite Aydin spending New Year’s Eve and the morning after fast asleep, Sonja was not so lucky: “I was up pretty much all last night.”

With Lochlan turning 3 this month and Aydin’s special birth date, Sonja is anticipating some very big celebrations over the festive season for quite a few years to come.

“They’ll have a big party on their birthdays,” Sonja said yesterday.

Six babies were born at Hervey Bay Hospital on New Year’s Eve, two delivered by caesarean. However, the Fraser Coast’s first bub of the new year had not arrived late yesterday.
