Bail for drug accused

A TOOGOOM father allegedly involved in the operation of a meth lab has been released on bail – despite police objecting to his release.

Scott William Hayes is facing five serious charges including possessing, producing and supplying dangerous drugs.

The Hervey Bay Magistrates Court heard the roofing business owner planned to contest each count.

“While he admits he was at the scene ... he was not involved in the production of meth amphetamines,” defence solicitor John Milburn said.

Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris objected to Hayes being released on bail until his next court appearance on December 2.

She said the alleged offences occurred shortly after he was released on watch-house bail for similar charges earlier this week.

However, Magistrate Tom Killeen decided it would be “unjust” to remand Hayes in custody and released him on bail with special conditions including drug testing and reporting.
