Pialba balloon bike wins Ulysses shop window award
A MOTORBIKE made from balloons in a shop window has been judged the best motorcycle display on the Fraser Coast.
The competition was for local businesses to decorate their shop windows in a motorcycle theme to coincide with the Ulysses visit.
The winner was Hervey Bay decoration shop A Stylish Celebration, which won a two-night stay at Kingfisher Bay Resort.
In three hours, they conjured up a motorbike out of 50 balloons.
A Stylish Celebration event co-ordinator Stacey Taplin said it was a surprise to win.
"We were doing some decorating for their AGM on the main stage and we got sent an email inviting us to get involved, so we thought, 'why not'," she said.
"When we did it I thought it looked good but I didn't think we'd win."
Ms Taplin said the city was buzzing with the Ulysses in town.
"It's so good to have so many people in the area," she said.
"They come in to take photos of the balloon bike and we usually have a good laugh, they're just really nice people."
Ulysses national president Denis Paulin judged the competition.
Allikats cafe in Kent St was highly commended for its collectable model bikes as well.
